Dog Training
We humans can influence and guide our dog's
behavior by first understanding the basics of how
our dog's mind works. What is our dog's true
nature and what does our dog need to truly be
happy and fulfilled? To attain that special balanced
relationship that can exist between dog and owner,
I believe it is essential for us to understand how our
interactions with our dog strongly influence his or
her behavior.
Dog behavioral issue resolution and training should be effective and easy for a dog owner to grasp. I start by teaching dog owners basic dog psychology, which will help them to understand what a dog needs to find fulfillment and happiness in his life. I teach people how to communicate with their dogs to enhance the bond they have. Next, I work with the dog to address a specific behavior problem while the dog owner observes. Then, I engage dog owners in the process so they get experience and a feel for what is required to continue to influence the dog's behavior going forward. The methods I use to correct and change a dog's behavior are not only very humane, they never involve hitting, yelling, lunging, or physically making your dog become submissive.
$100 per hour. $250 for three hour consultation.

• Behavior (fear, anxiety, introducing a new pet, destruction)

The DogMa
Charlotte Petrey, Owner
aka: The DogMa
Paws For A Moment and You Lucky Dog were established in 2002
Charlotte describes what drew her towards her work with animals:
"As far back as I can remember, there was always a dog or a cat in my family. I grew up with dogs and cats. I always remember having them around to pet and talk to, or just to hang out with. As I became a young adult, it became very apparent that I had developed a special connection with pets. As I got older, all I could think about was getting my own pets to care for and share my life with. I had developed a deep passion for animals and especially for dogs and cats that continues on today.
I'll never forget one of the first things that I did as a young adult. It was right after I got my first house; I rushed out to adopt a dog and cat of my own. That day at the shelter was one of the happiest and proudest days of my life. I adopted a beautiful German Shepherd mix puppy from the Nebraska Humane Society (NHS) and named her Mindy Mae and a very handsome and lovable cat named Parker Boy. Mindy and Parker were my pride and joy for many years. Mindy traveled with me on holidays and they moved from Nebraska to Texas with me. My pets were my steady companions through some of the most influential times of my life. That day at the shelter also started what turned out to be a lifetime of volunteer work. I applied for and was accepted as a volunteer at the Humane Society, a relationship which lasted for over seven years. For me, it only seemed right to help other dogs and cats, whether at a shelter, in a rescue organization, or just on the street. I wanted to help them all. Working with shelter and rescue dogs provided me with invaluable experiences. My work with German Shepherd Rescue, fostering and rehabilitating over twenty-five of those powerful breed dogs, was some of the most rewarding work of my career. It was so rewarding to take dogs that had been abused and beaten down; to work with them day in and day out; and then watch as they blossomed back into the loving companion they were meant to be. Working in the cat and large dog kennel at the SPCA, it's hard to find words to describe what it's like to help these animals.
Shelter and rescue animals have been incredible teachers for me. Not only have I learned a great deal about myself through working with them, I have also learned what they need in their environment, and why they behave the way they do when any of those needs are not being met."
Charlotte understands dog behavior and is a very experienced dog handler and trainer. She has successfully handled and trained dogs for more than 25 years. She understands how to communicate with your dog and she can teach you how to do the same.
Charlotte's current pack of four-legged furry friends includes two dogs (Radar, and Doodle), and her beautiful cat (Parker). In addition to her own pets, Charlotte often has another pet or two around the house while she is boarding for a client or for family and friends. Charlotte lives in Houston, Texas where she continues to train dogs one person at a time.

Our Place
The pooches love to play in our INDOOR AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AREAS! Our facility features over 4000 square feet of indoor/outdoor romping room. Our indoor area is air conditioned, has a 50 inch flat screen TV, and resembles a living room environment. It runs the full length of the building adjacent to the outdoor area. Our Outdoor Area has elevated cooling beds, shaded areas and plenty of play equipment to accommodate dogs of all energy levels! Needless to say in the summer the dogs are inside most of the time and in the not-so-hot months the dogs like to spend more time outside.
We are an environmentally friendly pet care facility that promotes health and wellness through the use of only non-toxic, all-natural products for air purification/aromatherapy and cleaning! We care deeply for your dog's overall health and well-being therefore we surround your dog with the most comfortable surroundings and only use wholesome products in our facility. Whether they are playing in our daycare or spending the evening with us at a sleepover, they will be surrounded by a safe and non-toxic atmosphere. We offer a soothing collection of music, a relaxing aromatherapeutic scent in the air and plenty of calming physical attention. We strive to make your dog's stay a safe, fun and comfortable experience they will want to enjoy time and time again!
Testimonials
"You won't find a better group of people to care for your animal children! Not only are they incredibly good at working with pets, they are also amazing at working with crazy schedules and last-minute trips! I have quite the difficult puppy dog but Charlotte had NO problem with Emma at all! The report cards that we get at the end of our trip make me so happy :) I promise you will love your experience with You Lucky Dog -- Daniel and I are ever grateful that we have them!"

"I feel lucky to have U Lucky Dog taking care of all of my pet sitting and boarding needs! My dogs and cats love them and look forward to seeing them. They are very knowledgable, flexible with my schedule, personable and extremely trustworthy! I can actually go out of town and not worry! Thank you Paws For A Moment!"

"I've been taking my dog, Chester, to Paws for a Moment (You Lucky Dog) since it opened in June 2007. Being a rescue dog, Chester started coming to day care for socializing so he would come out of his shyness. Boy, did it work and he looks forward to coming to daycare every day! This is a family run business and they all work so well together and are so caring about their clients (both animal and human). They project their love and care for all animals with their services as well as maintaining a very professional but relaxed atmosphere at the day care. I have also experienced their boarding and can't imagine ever taking my dog anywhere else. I come back from vacation and he's as happy as ever! I highly recommend this day care and boarding facility. You won't be disappointed!!! Your dog will never want to go anywhere else!”
Debbi E.
"The best thing about the staff at You Lucky Dog is that they understand dogs. They know what a dog needs to be happy and are concerned with the safety and well-being of the dogs in their care. They temperament test every dog that comes to daycare, and if a dog is aggressive, it is not allowed in with the other dogs. This makes me feel comfortable in knowing that my dog will be safe and have a good time in daycare, which is my primary concern.
A big THANK YOU to You Lucky Dog for setting the standard for doggie day care!!!"
Julie S.
"My dog had some agression issues that prevented us from enjoying the dog park. The "DogMa" got him in check in less than a week! They are reasonably priced and do a great job. If I ever feel like he's getting out of check I just take him to day care and he remember how he's supposed to behave. He even loved the training. After a few days of daycare he would run to the car ready to go again!"
